Goat Hill Coffee & Soda

Goat Hill Coffee & Soda is a cute and cozy coffeeshop located in the Westside district of Kansas City. One of my friends from high school recommended this shop to me a couple years ago because I mentioned how much I loved a similar coffee shop called Kaldi's Coffee. Knowing the St. Louis and Kansas City rivalry Goat Hill is a more local owned coffee shop with a similar goat branding. From the yelp reviews and the photos on instagram I thought that this place was going to be little bigger inside. There was only high top seating around the windows and up by the bar where they make coffee which is a bit unconventional for a coffee shop; usually there are some table tops to sit at and spread out. At first the smallness was a little intimidating but as I sat down and got comfortable I realized that its a really nice spot to get to know the person sitting next to you. They have a nice selection of espresso based drinks, and they also have house made sodas. I ordered one of their specialty rosemary caramel lattes with almond milk and it was so good I almost forgot to slowdown and enjoy it. I sat right at the counter and got to see the barista make one of their matcha lattes using the traditional Japanese method, soaking the matcha wisk in water, dosing the matcha, and making sure the water was at the proper temperature for mixing. They where nice enough to explain the whole process to me as they where making it. Usually other shops do not make matcha the traditional way. I spent about an hour there and over all it had a really nice welcoming atmosphere, and everyone there seemed to know each other. It was really cool. I will defiantly be back to give it a try!
